About Wanderleaf

What this site is

Wanderleaf is a working notebook for people who keep foliage plants indoors. It publishes two kinds of sheet: plant records, which describe what a species needs in numbers, and diagnostic sheets, which start from a symptom and work back to its causes.

Every sheet is written from the same position: the plant is a set of measurable conditions — light in lux, humidity as a percentage band, a watering interval in days, a minimum temperature — and most indoor plant failures are one of those conditions being outside the range. The sheets therefore lead with numbers rather than with adjectives.

How the site is organised

  • Plant records are filed by light requirement, from low light to direct sun, because light is the condition most often wrong and the hardest to fix.
  • Diagnostic sheets are filed by the part of the plant affected: leaf, stem and root, or whole plant.
  • Room sheets describe a specific indoor position — a north-facing room, a south bay, a basement shelf — and the species that will and will not work there.

How sheets are added

The site is built from a dated content file. Each sheet carries a publication date and the site generator publishes only the sheets whose date has passed, so the archive grows on a schedule rather than all at once. This is why some sheets reference others that are not yet listed.

Corrections

If a number looks wrong, or a species is described in a way that does not match what you see, write to the address on the contact page with the sheet title and what you observed. Corrections are folded into the sheet and the publication date is left alone.
